SEAL IN THE POWER continued

INSTALL THIN RAIL INTO GROOVE IN MACHINED RING WITH GAPS APPROXIMATELY OPPOSITE.

OIL CONTROL RING.  INSTALL EXPANDER WITH JOINT 90 DEGREES TO WRIST PIN. INSTALL RAILS WITH THEIR GAPS SEPARATED ONE INCH EITHER SIDE OF WRIST PIN.

OIL CYLINDERS SLIGHTLY AND WIPE OFF ANY EXCESS. TAKE CARE WHEN INSTALLING PISTON AND RINGS INTO CYLINDER NOT TO DISTORT RAILS. RINGS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO SIT DRY ON CYLINDER WALLS. REMEMBER EXCESSIVE OILING OF RINGS MAY KEEP THEM FROM SEATING.

I HAVE FOUND THAT IN MANY CASES IT IS EASIER FOR ME TO INSTALL THE PISTON IN THE CYLINDER FROM THE TOP AND THEN INSTALL AS A UNIT .YOU MAY OPT TO INSTALL PISTON ON ROD FIRST BOTH SYSTEMS WORK WELL. INSTALL ONE WRIST PIN LOCK, OIL ROD EITHER INSTALL FROM TOP AS IN PHOTO OR ON ROD WHEN IN PLACE INSTALL WRIST PIN AND OTHER LOCK .IT IS A VERY GOOD IDEA TO USE CLEAN RAGS TO SEAL THE OPENING IN ENGINE CASE SHOULD YOU DROP A LOCK WHILE TRYING TO INSTALL IT.

ASSEMBLE THE REST OF THE ENGINE AS PER SHOP MANUAL.

DUE TO HOW WELL THESE RINGS WORK IT IS NECESSARY TO IMPROVE YOUR CRANKCASE BREATHING. IF ENGINE IS APART I SUGGEST FOLLOWING PROCEDURE RECOMMENDED BY S&S. IF NOT GET A GOOD AFTERMARKET BREATHER LIKE HADEN CRANK VENT OR SIMILAR.

REMEMBER IT IS PAYING ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND ALL THE LITTLE THINGS THAT MAKES ONE ENGINE RUN BETTER THAN ANOTHER.

RIDE SAFE
